To help learner drivers feel more confident at roundabouts, driving instructors need to ensure their learner drivers understand how roundabouts work. They can vary in size, from large and busy to very small, so a better understanding of them will definitely help learner drivers.<\/p>\n<h3>Observation<\/h3>\n<p>Most large roundabouts can be identified well in advance as they will be displayed on road signs. You should therefore take notice of information like this because identifying them early will give you more time to prepare.<\/p>\n<p>If you are approaching a\u00a0<a title=\"Roundabouts Tips\" href=\"\/roundabouts\/\">roundabout<\/a>, you need to give way to the traffic that is already on it. On approach, you should follow this routine:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mirror (as you may need to change lanes, so ensure you check traffic using internal and wing mirrors)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Signal (if going left or right)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Position (get in the correct lane)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Speed (approach in second gear)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Look (ensure you observe the traffic around you)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Turning left off a roundabout<\/h3>\n<p>Indicate left and approach in the left-hand lane.<\/p>\n<h3>Turning right off a roundabout<\/h3>\n<p>Indicate right whilst approaching in the right-hand lane. Stay on the right on the roundabout until you need to exit. You must indicate left when you pass the exit just before the one you will be using.<\/p>\n<h3>Going straight ahead at a roundabout<\/h3>\n<p>If there are no road markings or signs, you should stay in the left lane on approach.
