If you\u2019ve been learning to drive and have just successfully passed your driving test<\/a>, you\u2019ll no doubt be looking forward to the freedom and opportunities that having a car can bring you. However, getting on to the open road can be expensive, so if you\u2019re looking for your first car you\u2019ll no doubt want to keep prices as low as possible.<\/p>\n

These are a few suggestions for cars that are both cool and affordable.<\/p>\n

Hyundai i20<\/strong><\/p>\n

A used Hyundai i20 will initially set you back around \u00a35,000, but from there you can expect minimal outgoings. The most environmentally friendly Hyundai i20 is in tax band C, meaning its road tax will cost you much less than many other cars. It\u2019ll also be a much cheaper car<\/a> to insure, as it\u2019s in insurance group 8 (these are ranked from 1-50, with the lower groups giving lower premiums). While this car is one of the most affordable, it\u2019s also one of the safest with a 5 star Euro NCAP rating.<\/p>\n

Suzuki Swift<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Suzuki Swift might not be to everyone\u2019s taste, but for many people the \u00a33,000 price tag on a used model is enough to turn heads. Despite the fact it looks like a bit of a boy racer\u2019s car, it\u2019s a safe vehicle to drive with a 4 star rating, and it belongs in a very low insurance group (3). The more energy-efficient models are in band C, and so will also be cheap to tax.<\/p>\n

Vauxhall Corsa<\/strong><\/p>\n

Low emission Vauxhall Corsa models are in tax band A, which can be taxed for free. If that wasn\u2019t good enough, you\u2019re also assured one of the lowest insurance premiums around thanks to the fact it belongs in insurance group 1. Then there\u2019s the impressive safety credentials – a 5 star Euro NCAP rating.
